Bike Maintenance You Shouldn't Skip

Your bike takes a beating every ride. Ignoring maintenance doesn't just shorten the life of your machine — it puts you at risk. Here's what to stay on top of.

After Every Ride

Wash your bike. Clean the air filter. Check your chain tension and lube it. Look over your controls, levers, and cables. This takes 20 minutes and prevents 90% of mechanical issues.

Every Few Rides

Change your oil. Check your coolant level. Inspect your brake pads and rotors. Look at your tires for wear and check spoke tension. Replace your air filter if it's looking rough.

Seasonal

Replace brake fluid. Check suspension sag and adjust if needed. Inspect your wheel bearings. Look at your sprockets and chain for wear — replace as a set. Check your steering head bearings.

Don't Skip the Basics

The riders who have the fewest problems are the ones who spend time in the garage. It's not glamorous, but a well-maintained bike is a bike that doesn't leave you stranded at the track.
